Why 50 KB?

Fifty kilobytes leaves a relatively small allowance for a photograph, so the useful subject should occupy most of the frame. A headshot with a simple background is a more practical starting point than a full camera scene with buildings and trees. Cropping away irrelevant material before shrinking can preserve more useful detail at the same byte budget. An image compressor to 50 KB can balance encoding quality and resolution when a simple resize still leaves the attachment too large.

Some examination and recruitment forms specify both a lower and an upper file size. A result below 50 KB does not automatically meet such a range. Check whether the upload asks for 20–50 KB, a particular JPEG format, or preferred pixel dimensions. What happens to quality

At this budget, fine texture is often the first visible tradeoff. The encoder can smooth fabric, hair and background detail while keeping larger edges recognizable. Increasing the target a little can help when the receiving website permits it, but changing the extension from png to jpg without re-encoding does not reduce the actual file.

Compare the output at normal viewing size rather than judging only a heavily magnified preview. A portrait intended for a small form field does not need the same dimensions as a printed photograph. On the other hand, a form that specifies fixed pixels still requires those pixels. If the requested combination cannot be reached, the tool reports a failure instead of returning an oversized file.

Make the most of your 50 KB

Use the advanced settings when the portal states a minimum width or height. Compression will respect both values and stop if they make the byte target impossible. Exact dimensions behave differently: they crop the picture centrally to the requested aspect ratio and then resize it. Keep the subject centered, and inspect the saved result for any clipped hair, borders or signatures.

For ordinary photographs, Auto generally selects JPEG. Transparent artwork is offered WebP when the browser can encode it. If a form accepts only JPG, select JPEG explicitly and expect the transparent area to become white. PNG remains available for lossless encoding, although a colorful photo in PNG may be too large at this budget without a substantial reduction in resolution.

Batch processing applies one settings snapshot to the selected queue. This keeps your outputs predictable even when several files have different source dimensions. Successful rows display their own original and final measurements. Do not assume every picture will use identical quality: a plain wall takes fewer bytes to describe than a crowd, even at the same width and height.

The compression history shown beside a working row comes from real encoding attempts. Values may move above and below the target as the search narrows its quality setting. Once a result is ready, its final status is based on the Blob byte count, not an estimate derived from the original size. The downloadable file and the displayed success label refer to the same bytes.

Keep your camera original for another application. The small copy is intended for the current upload requirement and cannot restore details discarded during compression. There is no need to delete the source just because the smaller file was accepted. Consider using a separate folder for submission copies so that you can quickly tell them apart from your full-resolution photographs.

Is a 50 KB photo suitable for every exam?

No. Recruitment notices can differ by exam, year and document type. This page only helps with image size. Check the current official notice for dimensions, color, file format and any minimum size, then use a matching preset or enter those values yourself.

How can I keep the photo recognizable?

Begin with a sharp, well-lit original and remove unnecessary surroundings with a suitable crop. Do not repeatedly compress a previously reduced copy. If facial detail becomes unclear, try a better original or a larger permitted byte limit rather than sharpening heavily compressed artifacts.

What if my PNG will not fit?

A PNG encoder preserves pixel information without using the JPEG quality control. Complex photos can therefore remain large. Try JPEG if transparency is unnecessary, or WebP if the destination accepts it. Keeping PNG may require a smaller image, subject to your minimum dimensions.

Does the batch ZIP contain failed images?

No. It includes only completed results, with distinct filenames for duplicate source names. A failed row keeps its explanation in the queue so you can change the constraints and retry. Downloaded files are never silently substituted with larger originals.

Are photos uploaded for compression?

No image bytes leave this browser tab. The processing code and, when needed, the HEIC decoder load as ordinary resources from this site. Files are decoded and re-encoded on your device. Reloading the page removes the current queue, so download finished results first.

Why did I get 48 KB instead of 50 KB?

The maximum is 50,000 bytes, and the encoder may jump between nearby file sizes. A smaller valid output is preferable to one that fails an upload cap. For a minimum–maximum requirement, enter both bounds; a file below the minimum will then be reported as unsuccessful.

Is this an image compressor to 50 KB or a resizer?

It does both. For JPEG and WebP, the tool first tests encoding quality at the current dimensions. If the file still exceeds 50 KB, it scales width and height together and tries again. The adaptive shrink factor is at most 0.85 per round: each side becomes 85% of its previous length, or less when a larger reduction is needed, subject to minimum dimensions and pixel rounding. Exact-dimension settings keep their fixed size. PNG uses lossless encoding, so reducing its dimensions is the available fallback.
